Catherine Ford is a British actress who was born in Bloomsbury. When her father's departure from her family members, she was raised up by her mother, godparents, and grandmother. In her childhood Ford was afflicted with anxiety due to an obsessional disorder. Ford started acting in her teens and became an actor in the National Youth Theatre. She was accepted into Sylvia Young Theatre School but after a week, she decided that she didn't fit in. Ford reapplied for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and, on her fourth application she was admitted. Shaun Dingwall - who later was the character Pete Tyler in Doctor Who was also one of Ford's classmates. Ford was graduated in 1993, but, by that time, she had already made her television debut in an episode from 1991 in the show Surgical Spirit; she adopted the professional name "Catherine Tate". Tate was on television in the Nineties with shows such as The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Tate's regular involvement in the theatre led her to join The Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 Season. But Tate soon began to garner notice for her stand-up comedy and added stand-up comedy to her repertoire in 1996.
