The league was launched in May of 2012. Garena introduced the Garena Premier League (GPL), a six-month-long professional online gaming league featuring more than 100 matches to be played. The first season of GPL includes the League of Legends competition which includes six professional teams. They represent the best players of different countries. GPL games and commentary are streamed live online. Viewers can watch GPL games and commentaries on the GPL website. The GPL announced in January 2013 Garena revealed it was launching the Garena Premier League's season two began on January 4th, 2013. Garena Premier League 2013, which started on January 4, 2013, will include two new teams. One each of Taiwan and Vietnam. It brings the number of teams up to eight. AHQ, Saigon Fantastic Five, Bangkok Titans, Kuala Lumpur Hunters, Manila Eagles, Taipei Assassins, and Singapore Sentinels are the teams. Garena's eSports stadium is a stadium that is dedicated to esports within the Neihu District Taipei, opened its doors on November 14, 2014. The studio was built partially to accommodate the beginning of the League of Legends Masters Series that is the most elite Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau LoL league which was a spin-off of the GPL. In the month of January, Garena launched Iron Solari League an all-women's League of Legends tournament in the Philippines. The event is bi-monthly that is played in the second half of every month. This event aims at encouraging participation of communities with low representation and is open to any women who identify as the same. Garena holds offline events to users who want to meet and connect. Garena is also the organizer of the Garena carnival that is held annually in Singapore and Malaysia.
